Our Mission

The inspiration for The Dharma Institute grew out of a deeply personal practice of self-reflection. What started as a private ritual became something more. Writing letters to her younger self helped Cherrie slow down, listen inward, and make meaning of experiences that once felt confusing or painful. They became a way to transform emotion into understanding, grief into compassion, and fear into something that could be held rather than avoided.

This experience highlighted the power of honest, heartfelt reflection and reinforced her belief in the importance of creating a supportive space for others as they navigate their own experiences.

Drawing from the insight she gained through self-reflection, Cherrie hopes those who engage with The Dharma Institute will recognize something of their own experiences, feel less alone, and pause to consider: Maybe I am not alone. Maybe there is a part of me that needs to be heard. Maybe I can learn to speak to myself differently.

For Cherrie, healing is not simply about eliminating pain. It is about understanding our experiences, developing compassion for ourselves, learning practical ways to cope, and discovering meaning within the lives we have lived. That belief became the foundation for The Dharma Institute.

Cherrie’s vision is for The Dharma Institute to grow into a place people can return to for perspective, support, and practical mental health resources. Through educational materials and reflective content, she hopes to make it easier for people to better understand themselves and the experiences they are navigating.

Most importantly, Cherrie does not claim to have all the answers or to have everything figured out. She believes in walking alongside others rather than standing above them. The Dharma Institute is a space for learning and reflection—and, above all, a supportive companion on the path toward healing.
